Industrial Pretreatment Program
The GBMSD Industrial Pretreatment Program regulates certain industries called Significant Industrial Users (SIU's) in order to control the introduction of pollutants into the sewerage system and ultimately our treatment facility. These SIU's must comply with federal, state, and local requirements through the use of a permit system. An Industrial Wastewater Discharge Permit outlines and references the requirements necessary to comply with all applicable wastewater regulations. In order to confirm compliance, self-monitoring and compliance monitoring samples must be collected. Self-monitoring samples are collected by the SIU at their discretion within prescribed timeframes. Compliance monitoring samples are collected by GBMSD personnel on an unannounced schedule. Another requirement of the GBMSD Industrial Pretreatment Program is facility inspections that are required a minimum of once per year for each SIU. During these inspections, a review of all operations that use water takes place including any pretreatment systems. In addition, chemical inventories are recorded in quantities of five gallons or more. GBMSD also uses these opportunities to promote pollution prevention, spill prevention, and recycling. In the event of a process change, chemical change, or compliance issue, GBMSD may conduct additional inspections to gather necessary information. The GBMSD Industrial Pretreatment Program prides itself on making every effort to control the discharge of pollutants into the sewerage system and therefore protecting our treatment facility. Through these environmental efforts, GBMSD strives to reduce our environmental footprint and improve our local environment. |
